FWIW: I see the "all applications loaded through kdeinit don't have Xft 
support" problem on SuSE 7.3 as well. But after starting kdeinit a second 
time (like described above) and setting Konqueror to use Arial Unicode I 
can view www.farsikde.com just fine ...
