5.0.2 is a release while the link below relates to a snapshot :)

Look for Settings > ALT Linux Control Center or something like
that ("acc" from root shell); there's a "Users" module there.
Just checked that it is included in that particular image.

Ouch!

Only these repos should be active (see also
/etc/apt/sources.list* if interested):

rpm [updates] http://ftp.altlinux.org/pub/distributions/ALTLinux/5.1/branch i586 classic
rpm [updates] http://ftp.altlinux.org/pub/distributions/ALTLinux/5.1/branch noarch classic

The rest, especially "5.0/branch" and the non-existing ones
like "5.0/Desktop", have to be disabled.

Yes; see branding-*-bootloader and -bootsplash packages
(the latter might need initrd regeneration and the former
might need LILO reinstall). The image is /boot/splash/message
but the format is pretty custom.

gfxboot splash screens are sparsely documented, unfortunately.
I'll try to ask folks for the better links in case none of
prepackaged images suits you.

A brave/dedicated soul can also learn how to package their own
ones though ;-) Some terse Russian docs are here:
http://www.altlinux.org/Branding

Again, if you're after a custom/reproducible solution I'm willing
to help you learn.

Hey, the newest distro bakeoven (mkimage-profiles) supports
both grub and lilo, and does support plymouth as well ;-)

Thanks, I've only dealt with that via branding.spec so far :)

Yup, I know, i was just telling you what I prefer, having plymouth off,
and using lilo.
Plus sometimes the disks entered into fsck and I didn't know what took
so long, it did not want to get out of the plymouth screen.
Some while ago the newest m-p did not work on 5.0/5.1 installs, and it
didn't accept disabling plymouth. So as you know I forked and made some
changes on that older m-p and am still using it for small setups :D

I tested setups first :)

Yup. I've just built the current image with TDE 3.5.13 backport
(that one received quite a few bugfixes) and Firefox 10:
http://ftp.linux.kiev.ua/pub/Linux/ALT/people/mike/iso/terminal/
  ltsp-tde-t6_20120803-i586.iso

...but it's rather beta than nothing:
http://www.altlinux.org/LTSP/beta [ru]
and so far doesn't bring up a graphical login window on
a virtualbox thin client (X starts up but dm's not there).
Sorry, too sleepy at the moment to continue.

PS: "acc" is "Settings > System management center", actually.
The LTSP related module should be broken at least regarding
video resolution change though due to xorg autoconfiguration.

Hey, patches are welcome ;-)

It's already in my git the latest m-p. Didn't change anything lately,
just built with p6/t6.
I should test the latest m-p-d to see what's there. Though sometimes is
better to just use the litest you have, for the targets that aren't
complicated.
