Strange.

Seems alright (just checked with i845D-based system)

Did you try aumix or any other mixer to see if the levels are OK?

Would XMMS complain due to "device busy" or "play in silence"?

Are you using KDE? If yes, then try to find in its Config Center
(sound section) something like "start artsd at startup" and
disable it, then run "killall artsd" -- that could be troublesome
too.

Michael,
I must apologize. Sound IS working. I was used to hearing the KDE startup tune
(Mandrake 9.0) and since I did not hear it, assumed nothing sound related was
working. I was wrong. Sorry for the xtra trouble. Sound in XMMS seems fine.
Will check other sound related programs over the next few days.

I have a few other isses to work out with JR.....getting my PalmPilot working
and my digital camera. But, I will take a few days to see if I can stumble on
a solution before posting for more help.
Thanks again.
best
Chad

Umm... you could ask babelfish.altavista.com to translate pages
at http://atmsk.ru from Russian -- they have quite a few
tips&hints.

For make use of PalmPilot under Linux you need J-Pilot and
pilot-link packages :)

If your digital camera connects ti PC via USB, then you can mount it
as USB storage device. After connecting yur camera to USB port try
running

# service kudzu start

If kudzu defines your camera as common USB storage devices, then you
can use e.g. digikam (KDE3 application for cameras).

or try simply to run digikam as user.

I will also try to find some more info...

Yes. The camera is via USB. Not sure how to create the new mount point
correctly. Based on your information above I found some information with
Google on 'mount usb storage device'.

Tried it. My camera is listed, Kodak DX4900, but get an error about port
settings. I dont seem to have digikam(?), but 'Digital Camera - KDE' . Same
program?
I will follow up my Google links and see what I can find out on how to create
the mount point etc.

Ugh. Do remember that there were some peculiarities with USB vs
COM (regarding software supporting different cases?) but not
owning palms myself can't guess more :(

Just know that usb people were successful too.

BTW, palm theme could be covered there too.

Lately I noticed that Junior 2.2 includes the window manager, Window Maker
v0.81.0, with the distribution. After visiting the Window Maker web site, I
saw that the only version of WM avaiable for downloading was v0.80.1

Can anyone tell me if this version of WM is a special version that only comes
with Junior 2.2? Did the ALT development team make advancements with WM that
are not available with other distros?

If so, I'm an exclusive Window Maker user and really appreciate having the
more advanced version on my Linux PC.

David.
