А из vmware вы доступаетесь именно к этой самбе?
Ведь vmware имеет свою самбу, причём когда запускается samba-2.2.1a-alt8 -
сетевые интерфейсы vmnet ещё не подняты, а после запуска - к vmnet
привязывается встроенная самба.
