ну да. бытует мнение что при написании документации надо рассчитывать на target audience в виде домохозяйки.
но вообще, если уж совсем очевидное, то (имхо) позволительно вставить пробел в msgstr вместо actual translation.
а что касается перевода названий элементов интерфейса, то я когда-то написал скриптик (лежит в kde svn),
который отлавливает большинство таковых и пользую его для файлов, которые выдаю на перевод.
