Сносить ничего не нужно.
При установке укажете какие разделы в каких точках монтирования
использовать и укажете форматировать только корневую файловую систему,
/home у нас отдельно и ему просто не указывать форматирование.
Примерно подобную процедуру я проводил и именно с ALD 4.0, но
гарантию как известно дает только госстрах, можно сделать бекап но
думаю неактуально.
Из /etc потом взять нужные фрагменты нужных конфигов по мере необходимости.
