Большим количеством перделок со свистелками и завышенными
требованиями к железу. Оно нам надо?

Возможность отрисовки полупрозрачных окошек я бы перделками не назвал...
А насчёт _завышенных_ требований -- Вы по опыту тестирования говорите,
или на основании предубеждений? Я имею в виду именно завышение
требований к ресурсам при прочих равных условиях (то есть, если сравнить
XFree и X Server при условии, что специфический рюшечки последнего не
используются)?
