Если имя хоста начинается с ftp, это никак не указывает на протокол. ;-)

Верно, я просмотрел. Но тогда, напротив, имеет смысл попробовать как раз
ftp. Или rsync.
Вообще годится любой возможный способ уклонения от проблемы. В том числе
- обращение в техподдержку провайдера. Пусть знает наших.
