Подскажите, какой командой из консоли можно определить закрыт или открыт
cdrom?

eject /dev/cdrom -- если зашуршит, значит был закрыт.
ну или от обратного с параметром -t

Нет, это я знаю. Мне нужно только определить в каком положении находится
лоток. И все.

Или как вариант получать сообщение от устройства когда его закрыли (открыли)
