Yes, gentlemen, adding the Contrib repository seems to have increased my 
choice of applications.

Synaptic is still requesting the changes that I listed earlier, but their in 
the "to be held" list right now.  I think, before doing the upgrades that 
Synaptic wants to I'm going to make a backup of the system first.... just in 
case.

Thanks for the helpful information.  Once again, the ALT Linux community 
demonstrates why it's the best in the industry.  ;o)

Errr... it tells that it won't touch these package for a reason
of them being needed by something else on the system in this set
(if the set changes) or these versions :-)  But the backup is a
nice thing in sour times of hard drives being consumables rather
than capital investment.

Uhh... maybe not, but it's really a community that makes things
live or striving.  Hope to see English-speaking community getting
as flourinshing as Russian-speaking long is, if there are
specialized builds at hand. :-)
