I solved this one by letting everybody on my ICQ list know I was tired of
trying to figure out what number belonged to who whenever ICQ got tired of
keeping the names I set and the problems the ICQ transports were having with
ICQ for a while, showed them how to switch, and eliminated ICQ from my circle
of contacts.

I've since done that with MSN and Yahoo, I'm currently in the process of
getting the last 19 people on my AIM list to quit holding out.

Ask them what the world would be like if SMTP never unified email and ask them
for GG's RFC number in the IETF standards. :o)

It's "a bit" easier to guess a valid ICQ "id" than a valid JID.

I don't get so much spam on GG - maybe it's worth switching from ICQ to GG?

No, for two reasons:
1. 33% of my ICQ contacts is abroad and I don't expect "them" to install
   GG.
2. For me GG is an emblem of destruction of idea of universal
communicator. It was first in Poland and opended Pandoras box. Do you
know any other country in which you have so many LOCAL
communicators?? In Poland there are at least GG, O2, WPKontakt (it's
jabber but this fact is not being advertised).

bah, if msn/aim/icq/yahoo/gg/skype don't open to xmpp in the next year
or two, they're just asking for trouble.
