После обновления mozilla до 0.99, валится на первом же fprintf (согласно
ltrace)

2. Попробуйте переименовать $HOME/.mozilla и посомтреть, повалится ли в
этом случае.

Помогло, переименновывание. Оказалось там лежал realplayer 5.0 в $HOME/.mozilla/plugins
удалил его и все заработало
