Ну бывает. cvs tarball обычно всё равно самостоятельно

Вот тут хуже. Если у Вас старый, но _сизиф_ -- можете
попробовать залить собранное на нём, при проблемах сборки пришлют
лог. Если ближе к, скажем, Master 2.4 -- осмысленно собираться
на нём и публиковать в backports.
