Добрый день!
После того, как я поставил kernel24-up-2.4.5 из Сизифа,
теперь в самом начале загрузки нового ядра вылетает много сообщений:
CPU #0: Machine Check Exceptions: 0x 10C2B0 (type 0x 9).
после чего все вешается намертво.
Процессор: Pentium 150 (P54C)
Мать: Tomato TX98
То же самое происходило на:
* ядре kernel24-up-2.4.4 из Сизифа
* самособранном ядре из исходников kernel24-2.4.4 из Сизифа
Все работает/работало нормально на:
* ядре kernel24-up-2.4.2 из Spring2001
* самособранном ядре из исходников kernel24-up-2.4.2 из Spring2001
* самособранном ядре из исходников 2.4.4 без патчей с ftp.kernel.org

Видимо, у Вас ядро ошибочно распознает материнскую плату как
двухпроцессорную или проблемы с процессором.

Рекомендую для начала обновить BIOS.

Действительно, в ac-патчах для 2.4.4 добавилась функция проверки Intel
Pentium процессоров. Также она добавилась и в чистое 2.4.5. Если не
удастся поправить мать/BIOS - можно поправить исходник
linux/arch/i386/kernel/bluesmoke.c в функции pentium_machine_check - но
тогда Вам придется это делать для каждого нового ядра :-(
