Сравнение не совсем правильно. Фонетически слова не соотносятся никаким
местом. В идеале, чтобы понять насколько правильно выбран способ
заимствования, нужно проверить подобные заимствования в языке (вне
зависимости от сферы применения) и потом статистически дойти до нужного
написания. В нашем случае имеются ввиду заимствования из, пускай,
английского языке, имеющие суффикс «-el».
из того, что навскидку вспомнилось:
rondel — рондель
spinel — шпинель
Я так подозреваю, что в английский эти слова пришли из французского и
немецкого, так что как вариант, надо смотреть ещё глубже.
