Собственно:
Заменять названия пунктов меню, кнопок, текст сообщений и заголовков окон в оригинальных .docbook
на entity
Например <guimenu>Edit</guimenu> можно заменить на &Edit;
<guimenuitem>Reformat Source</guimenuitem> на &Reformat_Source;
и т.д.
И при генерации переведённого .docbook (или на другом этапе) сделать
чтобы этот текст искался в .po программы и kdelibs.po и переводился автоматически
т.е чтобы
&Edit; заменялся на <guimenu>Правка</guimenu>
&Reformat_Source; - на <guimenuitem>Форматировать код</guimenuitem>
Кроме упрощения процесса перевода, это ещё и позволит избежать несоответствий в названиях элементов интерфейса
