Hello!
Вот какое есть предложение шрифтов для Emacs.
Я плохо разбираюсь в хороших шрифтах, так что лучше было бы, если
кто-нибудь еще решил, какие шрифты надо поставить по умолчанию.

Туда же, в ~/.Xdefaults странная строка (может, я ее же и сделал,
но вряд ли):
emacs*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-microsoft-cp1251
обратите внимание на -- перед 13, да и шрифт мелковат.
Могу предложить вариант:
emacs*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-14-130-75-75-c-70-microsoft-cp1251
для 1024x768 удобно. Опять же - IMHO :)
