Что может сие означать и как лечится?

][50][51][52][53][54][55(./figures/cavityres.eps<PS> 

Version of PDF file (1.3) is newer than version limit specification. 

pdf_open: Not a PDF 1.[1-3] file 

 

Corrupt PDF file? 

 

Ignoring stream with with multiple segments

Умеет ли dvipdfm включать иллюстрации в форматах, отличных от .pdf?

Не знаю, мейнтейнерам виднее ;)

И что делать, если не умеет? Вручную epstopdf?

Я не пользуюсь dvipdfm. pdflatex обычно достаточно.

Ну если бы Вы рассказали подробнее, какую задачу
Вы решаете, то можно было бы придумать и какой-нибудь
другой ответ на этот вопрос.

Вдогонку:

"make" проходит нормально.

А вот "make pdf" (из .dvi делает .pdf) валит ошибки, которые я 
цитировал ранее. Но при этом exit code = 0

Причина этой ошибки обнаружена, исправление тривиально. См.:
https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22006

Надеюсь, исправленный texlive-base-bin скоро будет в Сизифе.
