	Здравствуйте.
Имеется dual Socket7 материнская плата Soyo на 440HX с двумя
iP233MMX.  Проблема в том, что пока не удалось загрузить на ней
ни одно из *smp*alt-ядер, которые проверялись (*) -- сразу после
"Ok, booting the kernel.\n" мертвый вис.

К сожалению, я смутно помню объяснения vsu@ чуть более месячной
давности по поводу схожего на вид зависания vs-smp на KT133A и, в
частности, не помню, что может быть причиной и куда смотреть/
что рассказывать.  Посему прилагаю dmesg с загрузившегося ядра
из Compact 2.3 (с noapic nolapic -- иначе странно глючат сетевые,
причем обе -- и выгрызенное из лога инсталятора, где оно не
выключалось).

PS: diff -u /boot/config* для 2.4.22-std-{up,smp}-alt17 не
показал ничего похожего на знакомые подозрительные места
(например, CONFIG_M686) -- правда, рассказал много страшных
незнакомых слов. :-)

PPS: на этой машинке можно будет оттестировать необходимые
аспекты bootloader-utils, инсталятора и всего прочего, чтобы
установка на SMP не была сломана (как вышло в Compact 2.3).

Проверялось, я надеюсь, с vga=normal ?

Стоит ещё попробовать забрать с
http://people.redhat.com/zaitcev/linux/ программу под названием
mptable и посмотреть, что выдаёт mptable -verbose .

С такими процессорами ядра std-smp действительно не запустятся.
Дело в том, что std-smp собирается с опцией CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y для
поддержки более чем 4 GB RAM; для этого используется режим Physical
Address Extension (PAE), появившийся начиная с Pentium Pro.  Однако
собранное с такими параметрами ядро не работает с процессорами, не
имеющими поддержки PAE.

Может, тогда уже и собирать его как i686 и соотв. для PPro+?
Терять нечего, а приобрести немного получится.
