Если изменить /etc/hosts и выполнить update_chrooted conf, то squid на
добавленное имя хоста говорит, что "Unable to determine IP address..."
Refresh через F5 или Ctrl+R ничего не дают, но если сделать хотя бы
service squid reload, то всё приходит в норму. И дело тут, похоже, вовсе
не в кэшировании отрицательного ответа DNS. Кто-нибудь сталкивался? Что
делать с этим?

Сталкивался; не знаю, поэтому reload.
Вопрос в переинициализации резолвера, насколько понимаю.
Некоторые (например, mozilla-like) ей были обучены.
