Адля какой такой цели создан сайт updates.altlinux.com. Ведь все вроде
из сизифа обновляются? Или это не правильный способ обновления?

Есть security updates для выпущеных версий дистрибутивов и есть
нестабильная ветка sisyphus.
Обновляться можно и оттуда и оттуда, но с updates - рекомендуется.
