Подскажите, есть ли в природе список совместимого оборудования?
Интересует branch desktop server и в первую очередь интересуют чипсеты материнок

Не наблюдается. Скорее "несовместимого".

Из nforce -- из-за старого forcedeth.ko проблемы на MCP6x
и, кажется, некоторых MCP5x (может "прыгать" MAC или вообще
не подниматься NIX). Исправлено см. ссылку рядом.
Из VIA для AMD -- сходу не скажу, всё вроде пока заводится.
С интелами, по счастью, почти не сталкиваюсь; на сервер-сайде
до 5000-х чипсетов проверено и работает.
