Сабж. При переходе в папку, в которой более 10 тысяч писем. Это
нормально? Или можно как-то пофиксить?
А может кто подскажет, какими пользуются приёмами по архивированию почты
в thunderbird?

А можно как-то сравнить это с Kmail? если в Kmail импортировать как-то тот же
ящик с тем же к-вом писем.. и сравнить.
У меня в Kmail разница между 2000 и 20000 незаметна почти.. видимо, он их
как-то успешно индексирует.
