Что-то никто не ответил, а я разобрался с документацией...
Тогда отвечаю сам себе. (Для архива, может кому понадобится)
Bootsplash'а для разрешений ниже 800х600 по дефолту нет, а я при установке
выбирал ниже, соответственно, поэтому не получил бутсплеша.
А прикручивается он вот как:
splash -s -f /usr/share/splash/themes/Compact/config/bootsplash-800x600.cfg
>> /boot/initrd.img
В /etc/lilo.conf:
Пишем vga=788 (к примеру)
И на всякий случай передаем параметры ядру (может и необязательно):
append="splash=silent"
И прописываем пропатченный initrd.
Даем от рута команду lilo и в reboot...
