Может быть, я чего-то не понимаю, но в Linux элементарно поменять MAC-адрес карточки. Более того, иногда это действительно важно :). А вообще странно, лично мне не встречалось такого, хотя, возможно, все еще впереди.
Да и для дома, я думаю, Realtek был бы оптимальным вариантом.
