где копать и как?
хотелось бы узнать какие патчи накладывались на оф.ядро(ftp.kernel.org)
чтоб
получить ядро такое же, какое было в релизе Мастера?

С большой долей вероятности до этого звук у Вас работал через драйвер
alsa. Есть 2 варианта:
1. Соберите alsa под свое новое ядро.
2. Используйте драйвер из комплекта ядра.
