Ну, иногда бывает полезно. Однако некоторые особенности Линукс не позволяют паковать экзешники так, как это делается в ДОС и Виндовз. Вернее, распаковывать. Смотрите в сторону upx, он есть и под ДОС, и под Винь, и под Линукс.
