Подскажите, кто знает, пожалуйста. Эво и некоторые другие приложения
(есть подозрения, что Гномовские) не видят русского шрифта, точнее
показывают нечто похожее: ________, ____. Какие из русских шрифтов
должны стоять, чтобы исправить положение.

Вам надо в gtkhtml-properties-capplet заменить фонты на кирилические
