Еще как использую! Но в виде пакета даже для дедала я его еще не готов
выложить - мне нужна работа с cn=config, а для этого нужно здорово
переписать скрипты чрутизации, чтобы они не гадили на каждом шагу.

Хм... У меня сборки и с 4.4 и с 4.6 вполне успешно проходили, правда
на машинах с openldap правилом является ставить на холд пакет libdb4,
ну или для продакшена собирать openldap с внутренней libdb4
