Кстати, в LOCAL_RECIPIENT_README пишут:

In the left-hand side, specify a bare username, an "@domain.tld" 
wild-card, or specify a complete "user@domain.tld" address

Как понимаю, bare username - это именно имя без домена, т.е. домен 
совсем не обязателен.

Так что проблема где-то в другом месте, где? Попробовал включить более 
детальный вывод сообщений:

debug_peer_level = 5
debug_peer_list = myhost.mydomain.com

Но это ничего не дало, не так включается?
