Пытаюсь подключиться к rsync-серверу с машинки, где в iptables Policy=DROP,
но порт 873 с/на сервер открыт и по UDP, и по TCP:

iptables -t filter -A INPUT  -p tcp -s xx.xx.xx.xx --sport rsync -j ACCEPT
iptables -t filter -A INPUT  -p udp -s xx.xx.xx.xx --sport rsync -j ACCEPT
iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p tcp -d xx.xx.xx.xx --dport rsync -j ACCEPT
iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p udp -d xx.xx.xx.xx --dport rsync -j ACCEPT

Телнетом получаю следующее:
$ telnet xx.xx.xx.xx rsync
Trying xx.xx.xx.xx...
Connected to xx.xx.xx.xx (xx.xx.xx.xx).
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.

Попатка синхронизации приводит к следующему:
$ rsync -vat --delete xx.xx.xx.xx::resource /dest/dir
rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(614)
[receiver=2.6.8]

tcpdump с этого клиента при попытке соединения показывает:
# tcpdump -i any host usib.irkps.ru and port rsync

От других же клиентов подключаюсь-синхронизируюсь без проблем.

В чём может быть затык? Не нужны ли rsync ещё какие-то порты?

grep only_from /etc/xinetd.conf

only_from = 127.0.0.1

А вот grep only_from /etc/xinetd.d/rsync
only_from = 0.0.0.0/0

По адресам некоторые ресурсы уже в конфиге демона rsync ограничиваю.

Rsync пускает. Xinetd - нет.

Пускает. С других клиентов. С разными адресами.
Только с этого - никак.

Всё заработало.
Прошу прощения за беспокойство.
Оказалось, portsentry поместил этот адрес в /etc/hosts.deny
