Postgress таки сложный для изычение, мне кажется.
Я бы порекомендовал попробовать firebird.
Он полегче, и у него есть вариант типа sqlite.
Правда, у него хуже с атомарностью запросов. Помню на rsdn.ru любители
MS SQL, Oracle и прочих тяжеловесов сказали "ну... тогда понятно, почему
у него оптимизатор запросов ничего не может делать"
Суть траблы - что insert into X select * from X превращается
вбесконечный цикл пока место на диске не кончится.
