А вот с этим категорически не согласен. В русском языке уже есть слово
директория, женского рода, причём как перевод с английского directiry.
На сколько я могу судить восходит ещё к Риму и латинскому языку.
А потому, если уж переводить directory в контексте IT на русский язык,
то либо как каталог, либо как директория.

Я уже писал, что в контексте файловой системы что каталог, что папка
-- синонимы, и обозначают одно и тоже с разных точек обзора.

В оригинале -- это в английском? В английском языке нет категории
грамматического рода.

Не стоит путать пол одушевлённых предметов и грамматический род
неодушевлённых, они друг к другу имеют слабое отношение.
