For those of us privy to the JSF members' list there was a post about
Google Talk's VoIP protocol. The XML that they use is posted up at
"http://pluto.motime.com/post/488268", and the author suspects they're
using RTP. In my research on SIP, VoIP, and cross platform audio
playback and recording I've come across these pages which seem promising:
TwinklePhone: http://www.twinklephone.com/
~ - It's a Qt softphone which uses ccRTP.
~ - Could be worth gutting.
ccRTP: http://www.gnu.org/software/ccrtp/
~ - GNU's RTP library
~ - Uses CommonCpp which wasn't a problem w/ the Twinkle author, but
duplicates some Qt functionality and IMO could use some proxy classes to
act like CommonCpp.
RTP Library:
http://www.cs.columbia.edu/IRT/software/rtplib/rtplib-1.0a1/rtp_api.html
~ - Just another one I have bookmarked. I dunno about it yet.
PortAudio: http://www.portaudio.com/
~ - I keep coming across this when I search for a portable audio
playback library.
~ - Drawbacks are that it is only a device interface, ie: no WAV loading.
~ - Another drawback is that it probably can't play (or record) with
Artsd or ESD running. Though I question how useful those will be for
recording anyway.
Libraries for codecs still need to be found too. I know there's
libraries for Vorbis and Speex (sp?). I'm sure there are some for the
alphabet/arabic soup of standard codecs too.
