Не так. При использовании ядра серии 2.2.* glibc-core-i686 по
меньшей мере бесполезен. Вся его польза проявляется на ядрах 2.4.2
и выше. Без glibc-core-i686 ядро 2.4.* тоже будет работать (ведь
работает же все на наших конторских серверах с SuSE и RedHat. А там
у нас нету даже подобия glibc-core-i686). На Жабу в ALT-окружении
это,впрочем, влияет мало, она, по слухам, и с 2.2.* ядрами не
сильно дружит.
