А наш mplayer не умеет играть BR? Прочие файлы воспроизводит нормально.
А на списанном с BR-диска показывает черный экран, звук есть.
VLC тот же файл воспроизводит без проблем.

mplayer использует свою внутреннюю копию ffmpeg, изрядно
устаревшую, да и сам ещё тот, так что неудивительно.
К слову, я не планирую что-либо с этим делать.

Mplayer у нас, конечно, протухает без майнтайнера.
Пока майнтайнер найдется, предлагаю попробовать свежий
mplayer2 с репозитория autoimports, см.
