1) gstreamer - теперь стандарт для аудио (kde4 и xfce-4.5 будут
строить зависеть от него, а гном - уже)
2) для проигрывания звуков в презентациях, что является немаловажной
частью функционала офисного пакета
3) Если вам не нравится - можете поучаствовать в сборке openoffice.org
для разделения его на подпакеты, тогда от gstreamer будет зависить
только impress
