Оно приводит. На тяжких задачах: БД, HPC.

В RHEL5 не просто так 2.6.18. Backports будут в 2.6.18*-el5 еще
несколько лет, так что с новыми молотилками проблем быть не должно. Не
знаю, как с "десктопным" железом.
