Ага, поймал :)
Если при установке в видеорежимах 640x480/800x600 размер шрифтов не
фиксирован (т.е. Xserver не обломан жёстко с помощью какого-нибудь
ключика -dpi 100), то в в этих режимах размер шрифта будет плавать
точно так же и с теми же последствиями, как и в том случае, если
видеорежим выбирается родной для LCD.
Если же фиксирован (для чего, как я полагаю 640x480/800x600 и
выбраны), то ровно этот механизм я и предлагаю использовать для
масштабирования шрифтов для установки в других разрешениях.
