gdm 3 подхватил, kdm нет. Я бы посоветовался с кем-нибудь из мэйнтейнеров DE
насчет того, как нужно делать правильно. Посмотрел спеку LXDE, там кладут два
файла - LXDE.desktop в _datadir/xsessions/ и 20LXDE в
_x11sysconfdir/wmsession.d/. Некоторые WM, например, pekwm кладет только в

Про gnome-panel и апплеты уже сказали. А вот насчет cinnamon-default, мне
кажется он должен вытягивать стандартные гномовские приложения - для просмотра
картинок, музыкальный и видеоплеер, для просмотра документов.
