Случай достаточно типичный. Видеокарта на чипе ATI Radeon HD-3650,
монитор LG L1715S.
LiveDVD на этой карте не запустился даже с параметрами vga=normal
xdriver=vesa (на экране цветной мусор).
В VirtualBox система установилась, но видеорежимы не определила. Раньше
по умолчанию ставился модуль алтератора, через который можно было
настроить режимы вручную (как на этапе инсталяции системы, так и после
установки), что меня более чем устраивало. Теперь этот модуль убрали:

и по факту сейчас в Кентавре по умолчанию нет гуёвых средств для
настройки параметров видеокарты (через параметры экрана Гнома тоже
ничего настроить нельзя, если их не выставляет XOrg).
По большому счёту, всё это мелочи, если дистрибутив рассчитан на
специалистов. А если он рассчитан на пользователей, то alterator-X11
выкинуть явно поторопились.
