Если интересно, откуда приезжает 127.0.0.1, то начать, видимо, стоит с
изучения вывода resolvconf -l
Хотя, скорее всего, это dnsmasq.
У меня среди правильных адресов тоже есть 127.0.0.1, но пока он мне ни
разу не помешал.

Ну, возможно что дома NM получает настройки DNS по DHCP, а та открытая
точки их, почему-то не отдаёт. Сам NM показывает полученные DNS в
свойствах соединения (по-крайней мере nm-applet).
Можно попробовать в свойствах того подключения насильно указать
какой-нибудь публичный DNS. Вон гугль недавно пиарил свои 8.8.8.8 и 8.8.4.4
