Почему им нельзя будет пользоваться? Если нельзя нормально
упаковать в rpm какой-либо проект, пользующийся subversion, это
же не повод отказываться от subversion в виде пакета?
Пусть будет голый rubygem, которым жаждущие скачают и поставят
нужные gems. Хорошо бы он ещё не работал под root и имел по
умолчанию GEM_HOME в ~/rubygems.
