Не ошибаетесь: "Authentication failed for UNKNOWN USER from (uid=4)", а
почти во всех инсталляциях ALT
$ getent passwd 4
lp:x:4:7:lp:/var/spool/lpd:/dev/null
Т.е. в указанный выше момент авторизации CUPS работает с правами
пользователя lp.
