я делаю следующее - apt-get install gnumeric
получаю
Processing File Dependencies... Done
Reading Package Lists... Done       
Building Dependency Tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
  XFree86-xfs: Depends: libfntstubs.so.1
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).


выполняю apt-get -f install    
и получаю 
        
Processing File Dependencies... Done
Reading Package Lists... Done       
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Correcting dependencies...E: Internal Error in pkgMinimizeUpgrade
E: Unable to minimize the upgrade set

и как с этим бороться?

У вас что-то не то с XFree86-libs; попробуйте их обновить.

после выполнения apt-get update часа через два, все вылечилось -- сутки apt
не работал из-за этого.
