У меня используется. В связке с USB ADSL модемом. Из-за этого к etcnet
её запуск не прикручивал: у меня br2684ctl запускается hotplug'ом при
обнаружении модема. Настраивать же создаваемый интерфейс nas0 не
требуется - сразу поверх него работает PPPoE.
В бранчах оно есть - начиная с 4.0. Пакет одноимённый.

Взамен - вроде бы ничего другого нет.
