JFYI, вчера после обновления споткнулся и переставил acpid-sh
пораньше hal -- Fn-F4/F12 отвалились. Или смотреть hal-laptop?

Некоторые это аргументируют тем, что штатно кнопочкой -- не хуже,
чем нештатно выдёргиванием питания. Т.е. это наиболее мягкий
и легко объясняемый себе и суппорту способ в условиях наличия
физического доступа к машине.
