Subject: [BlueZ-Announce] Release of bluez-libs-3.16 and bluez-utils-3.16
X-Mailer: Evolution 2.10.1

Hi Folks,

this is an update release of the new stable versions of the Bluetooth
library and the utilities. This release adds support for the usage of
mono headsets as audio capture and playback devices. It also makes the
connection of headsets easier through an auto-create mode of the ALSA
plugin.

This means as an end user you can simply create the following .asoundrc
entry for ALSA and it will connect to your headset:

pcm.headset {
	type bluetooth
	device 00:11:22:33:44:55
}

The only requirement is that the audio service has been started. The
plugin doesn't autostart the service.

And yes, it should work with Headset Profile and the Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile in the same way. the A2DP support had a little bit
more testing than the Headset support.

For package maintainers it is important on how this gets packaged. The
ALSA plugin actually introduces a dependency on libasound2. The plugin
itself however doesn't depend on libbluetooth and so it might be wise to
create a separate sub-package for the ALSA plugin.

In a similar way this release also contains the first attempt to create
a native GStreamer plugin that could be used instead of the ALSA plugin.
Currently only the functionality for SBC encoding and decoding is
implemented and so this is kinda useless. With the exception if you
wanna play *.sbc audio files with your favorite media player. They are
actually kinda rare, but they exist.

However the GStreamer plugin should be always a sub-package since its
dependency chain is much bigger and should not pollute the dependencies
of the main package.

Regards

Marcel
