Просто вопрос в том, на самом ли деле DHCP используется. Может тут должно

По скольку драйвер один, видимо, eth0 всё равно активировался.

Может быть. tcpdump какой-нибудь трафик на eth1 показывает ?

Есть возможность попробовать какую-нибудь другую сетевую карту ?
Лучше Intel EE PRO/100 - с ними могу гарантировать отсутствие проблем. :-)
Если работать не будет, то, или из-за настроек или из-за проблем с кабельным
хозяйством.
