Сомневаюсь, что раньше было именно так, потому что пользователь
устанавливает src.rpm в свой домашний каталог (~/RPM) на который у
него имеется достаточно прав. Так что входить в группу ему как бы и
незачем.
Единственно для чего я внёс себя в группу rpm, так это чтобы можно
было работать (автодополнение имён файлов, в частности) с каталогом
/var/cache/apt:
[c0der@semushin ~]$ ls -l /var/cache/ G apt
drwxrws--- 5 root rpm 4,0K Авг 22 12:32 apt
Может ещё какие преимущества есть?
